NCAA FACTS AND FIGURES

With the NCAA heading into two major tournaments this month culminating in the Final Four and Frozen Four, Legacy is sharing in the rivalrous sentiment with a fierce bracket competition. Between that and all the NCAA scandal stories inundating our newsfeeds we decided to take a look at the organization as a whole.


Here are some interesting statistics about the NCAA (via Statista):


  • -47% of Americans follow college sports and almost 31 million have attended an event in the last year
  • -54 million people watched at least one college basketball game on TV last year, 24.7 million of which consider themselves “very interested”
  • -NCAA football has the most followers, closely followed by basketball
  • -6.3 million people watched a college hockey game on TV in the last year, 5.8 million of which identify as “very interested”
  • -57.5 million people bought clothing with NCAA team logos on it last year
  • -NCAA has a total yearly revenue of $797 million, $761 million of which comes from TV rights agreements
  • -Of those watching, the vast majority (88%) of people report planning to watch games at home
  • -45% of people do not plan on watching any March Madness games
  • -72% of people either “will” or “may” fill out a bracket
